This is not a Virus or a Bug
Very annoying so to speak. Every time I search for something and click on one of the results I am being redirected to some totally unrelated page which is nothing but a full page advert I assume for some site that pays google oozles of money for this. Might be owned by google as far as I know.
This is not a virus or a bug!!!!!
I just had a brand new install on one of my computers and as soon as I'd hit the web and did a search the first thing came up was one of these re-directions to some site. I never look at the site I am redirected to I just hit the close button and click the search result again and the second times usually takes me to the site I want to go to. I had not installed anything else on the computer but the operating system and the drivers.
With all these re-directions the Internet speed also is reduced by about 50%. The redirection is slow and the second click slow too. One reason for the reduction is the service providers limit on downloaded gigabytes and the other is the redirection itself and trying to go to the page I want to takes several clicks and seconds longer.
Say you have a 20 megabytes Internet speed from your provider. (virgin media for an example ) If you reach 5 gigabytes of downloaded data per any 24 hours period they will drop your speed for the rest of the 24 hours to 5 megabytes. I am sure this is the same with all of the other Internet providers. If you have a 10 megabytes speed they will drop it to 2 or 3 megabytes for the rest of the 24 hour period and so on. So if you are viewing movies or video online you will use up your allowed data and your speed will drop.
With the redirections this data will be reached much sooner because you are accounted for that data too.
As I see it on the internet this has became a wide spread problem. Searching for these re-direct sites are simply impossible because they are hiding behind firewalls and fake addresses and some of them only live for a short duration before they switch to a different domain name. One of the latest re-direct site here is pressingevent dot comĀ I simply couldn't find anything on this site trying to do some quick search. Almost every search will re-direct to this site.
Using virus or malware software don't do anything because the problem is not on my computer. I had ran my virus programs Avira, Malware Bytes, AdAware by lavasoft and also Threatfire. Non of them came up with anything.
I don't know what to do or how to stop these vicious redirects. Blocking their IP in the host file dont't seem to make any difference. I guess they are using some sort of cloacking software to hide.
