The easy way to fix broken tiles

How to fix and replace the broken tiles easily in a bathroom or kitchen. Chipped tiles are ugly and could cause painful injury.

Tools needed; A hammer, chisel and some sort of wide scraper or a piece of semi hard piece of plastic about 3 inches by 3 inches at least and a sponge.

Materials needed; a tube of silicon and grout.

What you need to do to remove the chipped ceramic tile is to start braking the tile into pices in the center with the hammer. Once the center of the tile has broken into smaller pieces some will fall out and the rest could be taken out by the chisel.

You place the chisel at the center and pointing the chisel towards the edge hit the other end of the chisel with the hammer to separate the tile from the adhesive. Lay the chisel as flat as you can so that you don't put a hole into the wall. I usually use a wood chisel (chisel that is used to chisel wood) because it is sharper than the masonry chisel. As you chisel outwords towards the edge the pieces wil brake out at the grout line. Take all the pieces out and clear the grout out around the edges. If there was too much adhesive under the tile you can chip that off with the chisel too.

Now place the new tile in and make sure it's flush or a little bit under the surface of the rest of the tiles. When you are sure it's not going to stick out, get the tube of silicone and in a zig zag press a line of silicone onto the back of the tile, but make sure you stay away at least a half inch from the edges or else it'll squeeze out when you press the tile onto the wall and the grout won't stick to it.

Now press the tile onto the wall where you chiseled the broken tile out from. Wiggle it a little to make sure the silicone has good contact with the wall. Place some spaghetti or match sticks two on each side of the tile into the gap to keep even distance from the other tiles around it and let it dry for about an hour.

After that take the spaghetti or match sticks out and mix a little grout powder or if you have bought a tube of grout only, squeeze some out onto the edge of the wide scraper or semi hard piece of plastic and sqush it into the gap in between the tiles. Do it quick or the grout might dries. When you are done, just wet the sponge and with a circular motion wipe the excess grout off and even it out around the tile and you are done. Wait for the grout to dry and enjoy your new tile.
